Women are working more and living longer, but they are still lagging behind men when it comes to knowing how to handle your money.
Athena is an online platform specifically designed to help women learn how to manage their finances. With online courses in budgeting and investing, Athena aims to give women more financial knowledge and confidence!
What is Athena’s mission and vision?
Our mission to inspire women to be more financially independent, and to achieve any goal that they desire.
Where do you see the company in the near term and long term?
In the near term, we are focused on having more women learn about us and access our courses. In the long term, we would like to create a digital bank that will serve women according to their personal needs and give them service that they prefer.
VC, Angel, or Bootstrap? And why?
Well everything! Each stage of the company needs to be supported differently. When you launch, it’s important to bootstrap and build your first MVP with resources available. At the later stage it’s important to find finances from angel investors. Last but not least, VCs are essential for scaling your business.
Your proudest achievement so far?
Looking back I can say that I had many interesting milestones. But I think one of my favorites for now is having the courage to leave a successful career in private banking, move to my 6th foreign country and start a business where I can combine my two passions: finances and women empowerment.
The biggest mistake you have made so far?
Oh, I can write a book about it. But in short, overspending rather than starting to invest. Another one is starting my business in my 30s instead of my 20s.
Which one thing do you wish you’d done differently?
That is another book. I wish I knew how to find a right mentor that would help my career development. I wish I had learned how to trade earlier. And I wish I had less fears and more confidence with starting my own venture sooner.
Who are your role models or mentors?
My role models are good old Warren Buffet, Elon Musk and Nelson Mandela. I like the simplicity of Buffet’s lifestyle, the vision and self-confidence of Musk, and the wisdom of Mandela.
How has mentorship helped you accelerate your career and entrepreneurial aspirations?
I read a lot about my role models and thought: How inspiring! What if I can do the same? And I tried, and failed a number of times until I learned how it all works. Surrounding yourself with other entrepreneurs like myself is also very helpful.
When you’re considering partnering with another person or business, what factors are deal-breakers for you?
Someone who doesn’t have the same beneficial ideals, but only focuses on profit, is not someone I want to do business with. For me it’s very important to share the mission and have the right intentions on both sides. Also, I would never work with someone I don’t trust and who can put my company, my team or my customers at risk.
What’s the one piece of advice you’d give to other women entrepreneurs just starting out?
Be courageous; be focused; be determined. Women are the smartest and strongest creatures on this planet! Just start and fail (it’s impossible to learn without failures), but keep moving forward and you will succeed! Dream big! There’s nothing more attractive than a woman who does what she likes and is successful at it.
